WP8 Dissemination

start date month 1 – closing date month 36

WP LEADER: THE EUROPEAN INSTITUTE FOR CRIME PREVENTION AND CONTROL

WP8 aims to communicate the goals and results of the project to the wide community of actors interested to JUSTIS activities. Dissemination will have two specific objectives:

• to open the discussion raised within the project to the large community of criminal justice experts and academics in Europe;

• to present the project’s vision and results to policy-makers, administrators and non-governmental organisations both at EU level and in the individual Member States.

The aim of the activities planned under this WP is also to collect feedbacks from these audiences, so that the project activities can benefit from up-to date research and policy experiences all around Europe. To reach a wider community of actors interested in the issues covered by the research the project website will be regularly updated and expanded. Its address will be disseminated using the already existing networks of relationships of each project partner. The expected result of this WP is wide dissemination of the research results and better knowledge on the level of confidence in justice in the EU Member States.

The following tasks will be performed:

Task 8.1: Website development and update

This task will produce (and then regularly update) a website which, in the sections open to the general public, will present detailed information on the proposed research. In order to allow proactive role from all actors interested in the scientific and technical aspects of the EURO-JUSTIS project, the website will also include an online discussion platform. The website will also include an intranet area dedicated to project management matters and accessible only by partner institutions.

Task 8.2: Newsletter

This task aims to keep all interested social actors and the External Expert Group (EEG) regularly up-to-date on the progress of the research and the project findings. The website will provide, free of charge, subscription to the online newsletter, which will be released every two months. Following each of the major updates of the web site a newsletter including summary of the relevant update will be produced and sent to the mailing list of subscribers.

Task 8.3: International Conferences

Three major international conferences will be organised at strategic times during the EURO-JUSTIS project. The first conference is planned upon completion of WP2. It will test out the conclusions reached on the need for the indicators, and will present emerging findings for conceptualisation (WP3). The second conference is planned upon completion of WP4 and WP5 and will present and discuss the baskets of indicators and contextual data that have been developed and considered in the building of the new EURO-JUSTIS indicators. The third conference will be realised at the end of the EURO-JUSTIS project, and will present the results of the activities and discuss the retrieved indicators and their potential in policy assessment.

The conferences will be organised in England, Italy and Bulgaria, will have an international dimension and will require the contribution of all the project partners.

Task 8.4: National and EU events

Local workshops or seminars will be organised by single partners, both to raise awareness on the project’s themes in respective communities and to collect feedback from research practitioners and local policymakers. We would aim to have at least one such event per partner country, specifically targetting government policy makers.

We shall also offer a half-day conference in Brussels near the end of the project, designed for EU policy makers with responsibilities for criminal justice. The aim will be to summarise the rationale for the project, to present its key findings and to identify what further EU actions are needed to promote the use of such indicators.
